Two-Storey Residential Steel Framing

The Saladin project showcases the benefits of light-gauge steel framing in a modern two-storey residential build. Designed for strength and efficiency, the structure combines a raised foundation with precision-engineered steel walls and trusses, creating a reliable framework for the entire home.

On-site, pre-fabricated frames were quickly assembled and anchored to the concrete slab, with engineered bracing providing lateral stability during construction. The lower level has been partially enclosed with blue sarking, a weatherproof wrap that prepares the home for cladding and insulation while protecting it during the build.

The upper-level steel framework, including roof trusses and wall panels, demonstrates the accuracy and consistency that steel provides.

This stage of the build highlights the efficiency of steel in multi-level construction. Unlike timber, steel frames won’t warp or shrink, ensuring straight walls and clean rooflines that support a flawless finish once external and internal linings are applied.

The system also offers long-term protection, with resistance to termites, rot and fire – essential for Australia’s diverse climate conditions.
